This Easter Weekend’s South Island Ute Muster will be fun for all the family.
We start at 9am on Good Friday with standing ¼ mile Time Trials at the Airport and 4×4 Madness at Hokitika Racecourse. You don’t have to be driving a ute to enter either of those two events, but it helps.
At 7pm we have Not Just Jazz and DJ Miss Implicit raging the night away till at least midnight in front of the Grandstand Bar.
10am sharp on Saturday we’ll start the big Street Parade through town. Muster up by the DoC building on Gibson quay and be ready to roll at 10. If you want to enter the show and shine be there at 9:30 so we can get you up front.
After the parade we’ll have a big Show Day at the Ute Muster back at the Racecourse. Ute displays, cruising track, a tug of war, judging for Best Ute in several categories, a kids area with the 5D ride, food, coffee trade stalls and all the fun of the fair.
At 6pm, after the Show Day, we’ll start the prize giving. Judged catagories, spot prizes and drawn prizes. Then to top that off we’ll give away $10,000 to some lucky ute owner who has registered and is there for the draw.
After the draw the Big Night out will keep you rocking till the wee small hours with The Hetheringtons, Nekta and our headline band Adam McGrath and The Eastern.
The bars open from 12 noon both days. If wet we still go on, we just move into the Boys Brigade hall instead of outside.
Tickets are available online, from the Hokitka I-Site or from Hokitika’s Regent Theatre

Inaugural South Island Ute Muster 2018
This whole journey began when a Hokitika local, who’d seen ute musters in Australia, thought that Hokitika would be a good place to hold one. He’d noticed lot of utes in Westland and reckoned if you picked three blokes at random out of a crowd, at least one if not all of them would own a ute!
A small ute muster event was still in the planning stages when a very wet spell of weather at the beginning of January caused the Kumara and Hokitika races to be called off. The Ute Muster organisers quickly realised that this would be an ideal event to help the local community groups, keeping their coffers full through fundraising after the race day cancellations. So we approached the Westland Racing club to use their race course as a venue for ute lovers to gather, camp, listen to bands and enjoy the hospitality that the West Coast is renowned for.
The event will be held on Easter Weekend for two full days of ute activities in Hokitika and all things ute-related with an option for attendees to extend their weekend through to the Grey/Buller region for a further 2 days!
Over $25,000 worth of prizes on offer – including a draw for $10,000
ANY ute registered with the Ute Muster can win the $10,000 prize.
This event is weather proof, so even in the unlikely event that we get any rain the show will go on under cover.
